Oh I started this year with The Girl with the Loudening Voice and absolutely adored it! My favourites this year have been In Memoriam, Prophet Song and There Are More Things.. recommend those if you haven’t read already
I LOVE this idea. Before my incurable blood cancer diagnosis 16 years ago, I literally DEVOURED 2 books a week, even while raising my 2 sons. One of the things cancer took from me is my ability to be able to focus on reading even a short article. Too much trauma occurred that first year, I suffered from PTSD from nearly dying, not being able to find the right doctor who knew how to treat my rare cancer. The steroids used in the treatment, messed with the Dopamine in my brain. Before my cancer diagnosis, I was a very positive person, never even dealt with baby blues after my son’s births. While the ability to focus returned after my 2 years of treatment, it was scattered. Last fall I relapsed, and am currently in treatment again for the next 2 years(God willing the treatment continues to work🤞🏻) but I am making a conscious effort to read a book at least every 2 weeks. I started journaling here which I find helps me sort out my thoughts and fears, putting them to paper. I plan on writing more, painting more, doing more art in general going forward.🥰
I sooo resonate with the COVID statement. I just finished Ripe and gave it only 1 star… it was just startup culture trauma on the brink of COVID shut downs with no real plot to the story. It made me realize that I don’t think I really ever want to read things with references to those times. Anyway, added several of these to my list. Thanks for the recs!
Some fab books! Some favourites of mine recently have been We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman (a HUGE tearjerker!) and currently reading a great non-fiction travel book Around India in 80 Trains by Monisha Rajesh.
The Rachel Incident is probably one of my favourite books ever - just incredible!
Obsessed with that book

Eek that sounds like a tough read!
I love reading the list of books people read! Which of these was your favorite??
It would have to be Hello Beautiful, closely followed by The Rachel Incident :)
You have great taste! Did you love Conversations on Love? I thought it was such a beautiful book.
The ultimate compliment! Thank you. Yes I loved that book - it really suited the life-stage I was in reading it, too x
